During construction of the Elephant Trek habitat at the Cincinnati Zoo, a DuroMaxx® steel reinforced polyethylene (SRPE) tank system was installed to provide the clean water storage component for the habitat. It not only fit within the allowable footprint but provided a watertight, welded coupler solution to store treated rainwater that will also be used for ponds and waterfalls for the elephants to enjoy.
Originally constructed in 1910 and rehabilitated in 1988, the existing concrete structure was relined with a BridgeCor® Structural Plate for its ability to meet all project requirements.
After evaluating potential stormwater treatment locations for this watershed, the City of Richmond installed a diversion weir to redirect the treatment flows offline from an open channel through two Continuous Deflective Separation (CDS) hydrodynamic separators.
