Big R and Steadfast Bridges Replace Twice-Damaged Structure

After the 120-year-old, single-lane Astoria Bridge over the Snake River was struck a second time by a semi-truck in December 2022, it was replaced with two Big R Bridge^® Rolled Girders and one Colonial Flat-style Steadfast Bridges^® Vehicular Truss. The new, wider, two-lane bridge was selected for its ability to honor the aesthetic look of the original, bright red structure while meeting current design loading criteria.

ClearCast Transparent Bridge Deck Forms Provide Inspection Visibility

As part of an intersection improvement project, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 5 constructed two underpass structures. The new bridges included ClearCast™ Transparent Bridge Deck Forms, a transparent stay-in-place bridge deck form system, which provides inspection visibility both during and after the deck pour.

The Utah State Capitol underwent a major redevelopment to repair aging concrete elements and improve site sustainability. Part of the project included the installation of a customized DuroMaxx^® steel-reinforced polyethylene (SRPE) detention system with bell-and-spigot joints to maximize the storage volume.

ULTRA FLO Handles Increased Surface Runoff

A major automotive manufacturer is constructing a new facility dedicated to the production of next-generation all-electric vehicles. Infrastructure to support the development included an ULTRA FLO^® aluminized type 2 (ALT2) and A-2000™ PVC pipe storm sewer system to route an existing drainage channel under a rail yard at the facility.

	Condition Assessment Options Prior to Sliplining an Existing Pipe

	One of the largest concerns municipalities have when sliplining an existing pipe structure is if the liner pipe will fit inside the host pipe. There are a myriad of potential host pipe problems which determine liner pipe clearance: misaligned joints, out of roundness, protruding laterals, long radius curves, elbows, or pipeline breaks/deflections. These unforeseen complications can drastically slow down a project while a plan of action is formulated. Situations like this are avoidable, primarily by improved planning early in the condition assessment phase.
