Steadfast Replaces Bridge Swept Away by Floodwaters
Originally constructed in 1918, the historic Carbella bridge that carried U.S. Route 89 over Yellowstone River was washed away when the river reached historic levels. The bridge was replaced with a Colonial Flat-style Steadfast Bridges® Vehicular Truss which was longer, wider and designed to withstand future flood events and heavier traffic loads while maintaining an aesthetic look similar to the original historic structure.
Trinity Middle School's redevelopment project transformed aging facilities and parking areas into a modern, high-performance educational campus. The design included a robust stormwater management plan consisting of corrugated metal pipe (CMP) and a Jellyfish® Filter.
When Davidson County Executive Airport initiated a critical construction project to rehabilitate the airport's existing storm sewer system, DuroMaxx® SRPE and A-2000™ PVC were selected to effectively manage surface runoff during rain events.
In order to trap and contain groundwater contaminants, HF Sinclair Refinery installed "place and lace" ArmorFlex® mats as the best solution to act as a ballast, securing and protecting the multilayer collection system.
The Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw, wrote “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Whether you are involved with the design, installation or the manufacture of pipe materials, the key ingredient to a successful project is communication. Poor communication, or worse, no communication, can be a project's downfall. The best way to ensure excellent project communication is to have a preconstruction meeting.
Are We Losing It? The Sediment, Associated Pollutants and Infiltration Capacity, That Is
We’re making a lot of progress in the field of stormwater management, and as ongoing research sheds light on the growing suite of things in runoff we ought to be concerned about, our thirst (no pun intended) for affordable solutions has never been greater. Infiltration is not a new concept, but its popularity as a first line of defense against harmful discharges to receiving waters, not to mention reducing excess runoff volume, is still expanding.
