In the River Parishes of Louisiana, HEL-COR® Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) structures were implemented as an efficient and cost-effective way to resolve decades-long flooding issues on vital levee access roads.
When the original structure carrying Bear Road over Mill Creek experienced progressive erosion around the bridge abutments, it was replaced with a CON/SPAN® O-Series® Bridge System and precast EXPRESS® Foundations.
Given the density of the property, the most practical approach for the detention and treatment system was an underground system consisting of corrugated metal pipe (CMP) to meet the stormwater quantity regulations and two StormFilter vaults to meet water quality regulations.
The Steel Industry... Galvanized into Action on the Durability Question
Corrugated steel pipe (CSP) has been a staple in various infrastructure projects due to its strength and flexibility. However, its durability has historically been a point of concern, particularly with galvanized steel, which has shown suboptimal performance in certain environments. Galvanized steel pipes, while providing initial protection against corrosion, often fell short in aggressive environments. This led to a search for more reliable solutions, which brought about advancements in coating technologies.
